Cajaíba: a small seaside community within the Bay of Camamu. For boat enthusiasts, this place dates back to the 17th century, during the period of French invasions in Bahia. The French established a schooner-building base here due to the abundance of wood and its strategic location, close to the capital of Brazil at the time (Salvador) and to Camamu, the second largest city of the period. The traditional boatbuilding method, with its beautiful design from that era, is still preserved by local residents. These boat designs have been passed down through generations. It is possible to see several shipyards by the sea with schooners under construction. A must-see.
